Aunque la transformación urbana es común a muchas ciudades españolas y europeas desde finales del siglo XVIII, la destrucción urbanística llevada a cabo en los centros históricos españoles durante el siglo XX, reclamaba desde hace tiempo una explicación que, además, de manifestar las contradicciones actuales de la ciudad histórica, ayudara a planificar futuras acciones: valorar el patrimonio conservado, y servir de guía para interpretaciones socio-culturales de un valor económico en alza, como son los centros históricos = The urban transformation occurs in many Spanish and European cities since the late 18th century. However, it is the urban destructin carried out during the 20th century in the Spanish historic city centers what was asking for an explanation that, apart from disclosing the contradictions of the current historic centres, would help to set up a plan for future actions: to assess the preserved heritage and to provide guidance for socio-cultural interpretations of historic centres, which are a top economic value.
